The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1 It’s natural to imagine this Shepherd as Christ, with us as the singers of this beautiful psalm. Yet the original singer was King David, a foreshadowing of Christ the King. This invites us to see the psalm as Christ Himself singing to His Shepherd—His Father. In this light, every promise and provision in Psalm 23 reflects Jesus, the perfect man, during His earthly life. The psalm reveals how Jesus relates to, relies on, and rests in His Father, His faithful Shepherd. Because these truths belong to Christ, they are ours in Him. Psalm 23 becomes a pattern, a prayer, and a perspective for all God’s people to embrace as we follow Christ. What a joyful assurance—we are invited to trust and rest in the same Shepherd who guided our Savior! |
