“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” Romans 8:31-33

It’s been said that in Greek, prepositions carry profound weight, adding rich meaning and depth to a sentence. This is especially true in Scripture, where every word shines with purpose.

In Romans 8:31-32, the Apostle Paul uses the powerful preposition ὑπέρ (hyper) twice—first in “God is for us” and then in God delivering Christ “for us.” These small words carry immense hope, reminding us of God’s unwavering love.

Paul is summing up the glorious gospel truths of Romans 8. He assures us that all the blessings of the gospel flow to us because of who God is in Christ Jesus and what He has done for us, no matter our flaws or failures. What a comforting promise for every heart trusting God for salvation!

This hope overflows in the very next verse: “Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us” (Romans 8:33-34).

In Christ Jesus, our loving God stands for us, not against us. Let this truth fill you with joy and confidence, knowing that He is always by your side, offering grace and interceding on your behalf.
