“How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.” — Psalm 84:1–2 Scripture calls today the Lord’s Day (Revelation 1:10). It is His day—the day when His church, across all generations, gathers as one (Hebrews 12:22–24) to worship Him. It is the best day of the week, for we enter His heavenly dwelling to ascribe to Him the glory due His name with psalms of thanksgiving and praise. The psalmist’s whole being longs to sing for joy to the living God. Each Sunday invites us into that joy as we worship the Lord together. Yet even as we gather, there remains a holy longing in our hearts. Every Lord’s Day points us forward to a greater day, when we will no longer worship by faith, but by sight—when we will be in His presence with “the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven.” By God’s grace, may our hearts today long to worship our Lord with His people, with joyful anticipation of that greater gathering still to come—the marriage feast of the Lamb with His beautiful bride, the church. “Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready… Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” (Revelation 19:7–9) |
