Christian Classics Reading Group

Friday Mornings at 6:00 a.m.

A Christian Classics Reading Group, led by Pastor Doug, is for those who would like to read classic Christian literature covering the past 2000 years of Church history. The purpose of this class is to grow in a deeper appreciation of Christ through careful consideration of His providential oversight of His church, through some of the teachers and leaders He has raised up through the generations.

This will be accomplished through reading primary sources of gifted teachers like Augustine, Luther, Calvin, and Edwards. As Christ builds His church, He raises up faithful teachers through whom he edifies His people. The gifting and insight that Christ has given some of these men transcends their own time and culture. As the Lord wills, our reading ought to equip us with a better appreciation of the development of the Christian mind and doctrine.

The class is open to anyone who:

  • Wants to read and discuss historic and current theological works
  • Wants to develop a greater understanding of the Christian mind
  • Wants to better appreciate the church that Christ is and has been building for 2000 years
  • Wants to better understand the history of the Church

In addition, the class is for those who:

  • Are willing to spend significant amounts of time reading serious works
  • Are available to meet on a weekly basis
  • Are willing to come weekly, prepared to discuss the reading
  • Are available to make a one-year commitment to the reading group
  • Are willing to invest a modest amount of money in purchasing of the books

A copy of the reading list is available for review. It is possible that the list may change.
